Stitches and Baskets is a Primitive Country Gift Shop located in Southwest Iowa. Our physical store was opened in March 2006, after renovating an 1800's drug store. Stitches and Baskets has been an online retailer since 2000. We continue to strive to keep up with the latest trends in the primitive country market. With our primarily goal of providing quality home decor and gifts at affordable prices.
Stitches and Baskets began in 1998 as a Mother/Daughter craft show team. While attending college, daughter Anna, joined her mother Barb at area craft shows to make some extra spending money. Anna specialized in hand sewn snowman and critters, while Barb specialized in hand woven reed baskets. Thus the name Stitches and Baskets was born. While the name has remained the same, a lot of changes have occurred since the beginning in 1998. In 2000, Anna began experimenting with the potpourri making process. She found a market for her unique primitive potpourri mixes. She designed several mixes using high quality dried botanicals and high quality oil. Her first mix- Primitive Rosehips Mix is still one of Stitches and Baskets bestsellers.
Beginning in 2002, Stitches and Baskets expanded to the wholesale market. Stitches and Baskets now sells their quality primitive potpourri mixes, oil, and dried botanicals to shops all across the country. Customers love the unique potpourri mixes, brown kraft labels, and homespun fabric ties.
In 2006, Stitches and Baskets expanded to an 1800's drug store located in downtown Essex, Iowa. The front portion of the building features a retail gift shop open 6 days a week. The remainder of the building is used for creating, storing, and the packaging of Stitches and Baskets Primitive Potpourri Lines.
